EEG – Neurofeedback

Known to repair and/or improve the Limbic and Nervous System

Electroencephalograph (EEG) based Neurofeedback (NFB)A.K.A., Biofeedback for the brain, is a well-established applied neuroscience that provides an environment within which the brain is able to functionally interact with itself to observe and amend trauma based dysregulations, working towards proficiency, self-regulation, and ultimately, optimal performance. NFB is the first research supported therapy that employs the most recent knowledge of neuro-plasticity, showing how the malleable brain adaptively functions, thereby changing the way it processes information in accordance with personal and environmental wants needs and pressures. NFB is the mirroring of the brain to itself, to observe, reward, and reshape our lives, enabling us to experience who we were intended to be, our original selves, aware, calm, clear, and appropriately responsive. Neurofeedback works.

The Brain

It is the most complex organ in the human being, and the third largest. A piece of brain cell is roughly the size of a grain, contains 100,000 neurons, one billion synapse which are all communicating with one another. The myth that we only use 10% of our brain is not true; we use every part of our brain which consists of 86 billion cells.

Facts about the Brain

The Limbic System

Deep within the brain is the Limbic System, the part of the brain where emotions come from and is the center of who we are.

Damage to the Limbic system creates dysregulation causing a person to be stuck in a loop of fear, anxiety, excessive worry, obsessive compulsive behaviour, depression and other issues now labeled as mental health issues.

Hello: My name is Walter E. D. La Fleur, AKA Skip. I was born in Montreal Quebec Canada., my childhood experiences in Montreal were somewhat brief, as at age five, we moved to California, land of sunshine, milk, honey, and produce. The sunshine was pleasant, but I missed the cosmopolitan nature of Montreal, which, even as a child, perhaps by contextual comparison I missed.
I adapted to my new environs, attended public and private schools, completed high school, as it was called at the time, and went on to college and university. I began college as a petroleum engineering student. My first summer vacation, I worked in the oil fields, on drilling rigs. The second semester I converted to Biology student. After completing undergraduate studies, I entered the world of employment opportunities, became a woodworker in Petaluma California, received the annual heritage homes award for craftsmanship and began looking for my personal meaning and purpose. I found that, at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, rated one of top ten TCM schools in North America. The faculty, are highly educated, trained in western and eastern medicine, Biological sciences, translations of ancient texts, and, are some of the most compassionate and understanding people I’ve had the good fortune to meet. Soon after graduating TCM school, I met my wife Carola; we had similar interests, and within a year, we both completed the Upleger, Cranial Sacral training in San Francisco. We then moved to Santa Cruz California, where Carola completed a two year certification, nutritional program, and I completed two hundred hours of Milton A. Erickson hypnotherapy training, for certification. Feeling a strong need to return home to Canada, we moved, arriving in the Kitsilano area of Vancouver, where we lived for about a year. In 2002 we moved to Victoria BC., purchased a small home, and opened a medicinal herb shop, Simple Remedies, at 1010 Cook St. In 2006 I became interested in electroencephalographic, (eeg) based Neurofeedback. In 2007, I became involved with the EEG Institute, in Los Angeles, California, trained at their facility and purchased their EEG electronics. EEG Institute of Los Angeles is a multinational, medical Neurofeedback Institution and training facility, sanctioned by the Food and Drug Administration of the United States Government. All EEG Institute devices are licensed, medical grade devices, and cannot be purchased, or applied without proper education, and extensive Neurofeedback training. I am certified through the EEG Institute. For information about Neurofeedback and the EEG Institute, go to In 2011 Carola and I visited Nelson BC; we loved the surroundings and social milieu and decided to live here. Arrangements took about a year, but, January 17th 2012 we arrived on Heddle Road, our new home. Nelson is very comfortable, it’s our home, and we haven’t any plans other than staying here.

Walter E. D. La Fleur
AKA Skip

I have had the benefit of doing over six months of Biofeedback with Skip LaFleur. He skillfully combines his considerable knowledge of Neurofeedback (Biofeedback), Nutrition, and Chinese Medicine depending on the needs of the client. As a practitioner, Skip presents as empathic, honest, and masterful, allowing his clients to relax into the experience of Neurofeedback. As a result of working with Skip, I feel tangibly more relaxed, balanced, and present.

Hello Skip, I wanted to again thank you for your dedication in regards to my brain training. You have gone far beyond the call of duty. You have spent endless hours of your own time to help me be a better me. I thank you so much for that. I have never felt better in my life thanks to you and your dedication. Thank you so much, Skip. I will never forget what you have done for me.

Skip and Carola helped shape the way I look at health and healing. Their knowledge of nutrition is at the leading edge of the wedge of current research. I went to see Skip for Neurofeedback  after my friend told me she hippetty-hopped down the road after her third Neurofeedback session. I'm an acupuncturist, so I wanted to know: what modality encourages a  six foot tall, 62 year old, 180 pound woman to hippetty-hop home?  I found Neurofeedback so helpful for my personal issues, that I've incorporated it into my health practice.  Anxiety, depression, learning difficulties, brain injury, insomnia, emotional issues, cognitive function, early childhood trauma, behaviour issues, PTSD - Neurofeedback helps the brain learn to regulate itself again. Combine the Neurofeedback with Skip and Carola's knowledge of nutrition and you have a superior approach to healing.

Hello Skip, Thank you for advising me to stop eating gluten after my first Neurofeedback appointment.  I wanted to say how much good a non-gluten diet has done for me. I have had stomach pain associated with eating all of my life, pasta, bread…was my staples. Now I sleep better, feel lighter and still feel satisfied after meals. Feeling this good I cannot imagine eating gluten again.

I have a history of headaches my whole life...including migraines. There hasn't ever been a day prior to Neurofeedback (NFB) that I haven't had a headache and tinnitus. I have an autoimmune condition that was finally diagnosed in my 40s that helped explain some of my issues. I access many forms of treatment to live with my issues. They have all worked well to keep me going, but living with chronic pain is challenging.
In Dec 2018 I experienced the worst cluster of migraines ever! Over a 2 week period, they were relentless. I was struggling worse than I ever had. I turned to Skip and NFB and my life has changed! I was hopeful, but had no idea what a day free from a headache looked like. I was a project for him to say the least. He had to start me before the beginning. I attended for about 8 weeks, 3-4 times per week as recommended and at about the 6 week mark had my first headache free day in my life! It was unreal. I had no idea what that felt like! Such freedom from pain! I continue to do well now some 6 months later. I continue to have issues, but have not had a migraine in all this time and the headaches are nominal at best.
I cannot say enough about the changes NFB has made for me. I am forever grateful!

Dear Skip, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the neurofeedback sessions.  I am writing today because I want to share with you my noticeable differences since my sessions. Prior to booking appointments with you, I was suffering from a great deal of anxiety both driven by intestinal permeability as well, my central nervous system and adrenal insufficiency.   This anxiety and nervousness contributed to some behaviors that I was having difficulty eliminating through other modalities.  In example, I found myself with escalating OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder).  This was causing me to count telephone poles, trees and other markers as I drove, counting my steps as I walked, etc.  This has been not only greatly reduced but as the urge creeps in, I notice it immediately and am better able to control it.  Previously, this urge was always present but today, it’s only noticeable if I am under a great deal of stress. I have always been someone who not only enjoys reading but have been able to utilize my speed reading course skills and retain the information.  I noticed this skill was fading prior to my neurofeedback.  I am now able to successfully read and retain the information. While I have been working diligently on my diet and supplementation, my digestive issues caused a slowing in motility contributing to constipation.  This motility has once again returned. My brain fog is less noticeable, my attention greater and my anxiety lessened thanks to my neurofeedback sessions.  I am grateful to you for your time, knowledge and expertise in your field.  If not for this time, I would be a cognitive wreck with no direction. Thank you Skip!  I look forward to future appointments when our time allows as this was the most noticeable modality I have used to heal thus far.
